Wake Characteristics of a Bell-Shaped Lift Distribution

Citation: 74. Cain, Charles B., and Sidaard Gunasekaran. "Wake Characteristics of a Bell-Shaped Lift Distribution." In AIAA SciTech 2026 Forum, p. 2327. 2026. https://doi.org/10.2514/6.2026-2327

Short abstract: This study investigated the wake characteristics of a rectangular wing with a bell-shaped lift distribution using cross-stream Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) performed at a chord-based Re = 200,000 in the University of Dayton Low-Speed Wind Tunnel (UD-LSWT). The wing was half-span with an equivalent full-span aspect ratio of 6.

Cross-Stream PIV Characterization of the Prandtl-D3C Wake

Citation: 80. Cain, Charles B., Jessica C. DeMoor, and Sidaard Gunasekaran. "Cross-Stream PIV Characterization of the Prandtl-D3C Wake." In AIAA SCITECH 2026 Forum, p. 2328. 2026. https://doi.org/10.2514/6.2026-2328

Short abstract: This paper presents the cross-stream particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements of the wake structure behind a Prandtl-D3C wing configuration tested in the University of Dayton Low-Speed Wind Tunnel. Previous computational and experimental efforts have suggested that bell-shaped lift distributions may suppress or delay tip vortex roll-up.
